What is Kagami Biraki?

Kagami Biraki is a traditional Japanese ceremony in which the lid of a sake barrel is ceremonially opened using a wooden mallet. Literally meaning “opening the mirror,” the ritual symbolises harmony, good fortune, new beginnings, and the sharing of happiness with those around you.
