What is Kagami Biraki?
Kagami Biraki is a traditional Japanese ceremony in which the lid of a sake barrel is ceremonially opened using a wooden mallet. Literally meaning “opening the mirror,” the ritual symbolises harmony, good fortune, new beginnings, and the sharing of happiness with those around you.
It is commonly performed at weddings, milestones, openings, and celebrations where a positive and joyful start is wished for the future.
